Enrichment Activities for Children:
Clay for kids

Wood Bus - contact Sheila Dawson (858) 272-5631 for more info. Children 4 years and up learn woodworking skills.
Sunday School - held weekly at 10am for infants to adults. For more info, call the Church office (858) 454-7108.
Vacation Bible School - at La Jolla United Methodist Church for children ages 4-12. One week in August.

Parent Education:
S.E.A. Connection -
Sunday mornings at LJUMCNS, a bible study and fellowship time for families with young children. Contact Pastor Robb (858) 454-1418.
Redirecting Children's Behavior - with Susie Walton. A parenting class for parents with children of all ages.

 

SCHOOL EVENTS

Annual Auction And Dinner Dance:  Saturday April 12, 2008 at the UCSD Faculty Club for Tiki Chic; A Tropical Gala! The evening is an exciting way to get involved and offer your support for our school. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer please contact Celeste Adams, Ali Dommers, or Sabrina Parr.

Parents Night:
An opportunity for parents to meet each other and the teachers to discuss the curriculum and operations of the school. No childcare provided.

Open House:
Children and parents come to school together to meet the teachers and become familiar with the room before the beginning of school.

Patio Coffee:
Patio coffees will be offered to parents on the first day of school, offering parents an opportunity to meet each other and be close to the classroom during their child's first day of adjustment to school.

Fund Raisers:
Sale of T-shirts and other family centered activities are conducted throughout the year to raise funds for toys and equipment. Parents and friends are encouraged to include the Nursery School in their tax deductible charitable donations.

Dad's Night:
Nursery School children invite their father to an evening of activities at school.



Halloween Parties / Parades:
Children may wear their costumes to school or bring them to school in a bag marked with their child's name. Teachers and volunteers help children if necessary to dress for a parade or party near the end of the day. Parents are invited. A special snack is organized by the room parents.

Thanksgiving:
Our emphasis at Thanksgiving is on thankfulness and sharing as well as the Thanksgiving story. Stereotypical Native American activities are not presented.

Christmas and Celebrations from other Cultures:
Our emphasis is on Family traditions and celebrations at this time of the year. Christmas stories, songs and activities are part of the curriculum as well as the sharing of Hanukkah, Santa, and other holiday traditions. Parents are encouraged to share their families' special traditions, gifts and cards.

Kindergarten Readiness:
An evening parent meeting to discuss readiness for Kindergarten. Representatives fro private and public school kindergartens meet with parents to describe their programs.

Valentine's Day:
Children bring signed but unaddressed Valentine's for their classmates. Children mail home Valentine's for their parents. Love for families and friends is emphasized.

Playgroup Parents Night:
Playgroup parents are invited to an Open House in the Nursery School room and are presented with an overview of the programs available to their children following Playgroup.

Easter and Celebrations from other Cultures:
The emphasis for the young child is on springtime and new life. Parents are encouraged to share the traditions of their families.

Spring Fair - Day at the Bay:
An end of year celebration of games, activities and food for the whole family on a Sunday afternoon.

Mother's Day Activities / Mom's Night:
Special activities and gifts are planned to help Mom celebrate. To celebrate Mother's Day, Nursery School children invite their mothers to school for an evening of fun.

Last Day Picnics:
Last day of school picnics are held with the parents bringing lunch for themselves and their children. Room parents coordinate with other parents to prepare lunch for their child's teacher and assistance. Nursery School provides drinks and dessert.

Pesticide on School Campus:
Lloyd's pest control applies pesticide on the school campus the first Saturday of every month. Below is information on each type of pesticide used. You will need Acrobat Reader to view detailed information about the products used. If you don’t have Acrobat Reader you can download it here.
